Bright Bites: World’s first supermarket for kids opens in Dubai
New initiative blends retail, education, and play for young shoppers
DUBAI has added a new attraction to its family offerings with the launch of Bright Bites, the world’s first supermarket designed exclusively for children.
Developed by Majid Al Futtaim, the innovative retail concept aims to make healthy eating more exciting, accessible, and interactive, while teaching kids aged 4 to 11 about nutrition in a playful way.
What is Bright Bites?
Bright Bites is part of a larger ecosystem that blends shopping, learning, and community engagement.
At its core, Bright Bites follows the “Pick Your Five” system, an evidence-backed framework that guides children towards nutritionally balanced meals. The Kids Supermarket, located at Carrefour in Mall of the Emirates, offers a gamified shopping experience where children can shop independently, unlock games, and track progress on leaderboards. Entry is free, with no tickets required.
How does it work?
Using a special play-and-shop Bright Bites card, young shoppers navigate through five key food stations aligned with global dietary guidelines. The programme not only entertains but also tackles real-world health challenges by promoting positive lifelong eating habits.
Majid Al Futtaim describes it as a “Lunchbox Revolution,” making it easier for families to prepare meals that are both nutritious and appealing.
Where else is it available?
Beyond the supermarket, the Bright Bites Academy serves as a hub for children, parents, teachers, and caregivers, offering workshops, cooking classes, and collaborative activities. The school programme extends the concept into classrooms across the UAE, with gamified lesson plans and activity guides co-created with nutritionists, parents, and educators. Select Bright Bites products will also be stocked at other Carrefour stores in Dubai.
